  • Characterising the faint outskirts (stellar halos, outer discs) of galaxies throughout the Local Volume, using resolved stars and integrated light

  • Developing and applying machine learning techniques to detect faint tidal debris in statistical samples of galaxies 

  • Studies of tidal streams and low luminosity satellites 

  • Measuring the detailed star formation histories of galaxies in the Local Volume

  • Discovering and characterising globular star clusters in the Milky Way and nearby galaxies

  • Co-leading the Milky Way and Resolved Stellar Populations Science Working Group (~75 scientists) for ESA's Euclid satellite (launched July 2023)

  • Preparing for science with new and upcoming facilities, especially WEAVE (2023), Euclid (2023), 4MOST (2024) and the Vera Rubin Observatory (2024)
